Consider Joining Bronas Laboratory?

The Bronas Laboratory of Vascular and Cognitive Health focuses on the connection between vascular health, brain function, and healthy aging. Rather than studying a single organ or disease in isolation, we explore how interconnected physiological systems influence cognition and quality of life through participant-centered clinical research.

Our current NIH-funded clinical trial investigates whether a personalized walking intervention can influence white matter integrity, and cognitive performance in older adults with chronic kidney disease. Using advanced MRI, vascular assessments, and comprehensive neurocognitive testing, we aim to better understand the physiological mechanisms that connect vascular health, cognition, and healthy aging.

Students work alongside researchers and research participants while gaining hands-on experience in clinical trial operations, study coordination, participant interaction, regulatory processes, data analysis, scientific writing, and scientific communication. This opportunity is well suited for students interested in physiology, neuroscience, aging, medicine, public health, or translational clinical research.

Clinical research is much more than collecting data. Students gain hands-on experience with every stage of the research process, from working directly with participants and conducting study visits to understanding study design, regulatory processes, and clinical trial operations. Along the way, you'll learn how to analyze data, contribute to scientific writing and presentations, and see how research findings become evidence that can help shape future patient care. Our goal is to help students think like both researchers and future healthcare professionals, understanding not only the science behind a study, but how that science can ultimately improve people's lives

Our research doesn't end with publishing a paper. We hope every study contributes to a better understanding of health and informs the care patients receive in the future.

Opportunites

We welcome students from a variety of scientific backgrounds, particularly those with interests in physiology, neuroscience, vascular biology, aging, or clinical research. Previous research experience is always valuable, but it is not required. If you're curious, motivated, and excited to learn, we're excited to teach you.

More than anything, we look for people who are kind, dependable, professional, and eager to contribute. Clinical research is built on trust, teamwork, and meaningful relationships with the participants who make our work possible, and we value students who share those principles.

Finally, we ask students to make a meaningful commitment to the lab. Clinical research depends on consistency, and becoming a valuable member of the team takes time. Students who invest in the experience gain a deeper understanding of research while making a lasting contribution to our participants, our lab, and the scientific community.
